Fauzie Laily was featured in The New Paper..=D

HYRUL ANUAR & FAUZIE LAILY

NS solace

AS every Singaporean male knows, National Service is no cakewalk.
It was even tougher for these two, who had just reached the final of a local talent search show and were looking forward to an entertainment career.
But before you know it, your head is shaved and you're running about in military fatigues.

Hyrul, 23, who won Suria's singing contest Anugerah in 2005, enlisted in September 2006. Fauzie, an Anugerah finalist, did so a month later.

At first, Hyrul thought Fauzie looked 'arrogant'.
But they eventually clicked as they were the same age.
Besides, both are huge Siti Nurhaliza fans, and they had to miss her concert as a result of a publicity photoshoot during Anugerah. Fauzie said they 'shared' their despair.

While serving NS, they also relied on each other.
Hyrul, who was a military policeman, often had to drop performing opportunities because of NS commitments.
But Fauzie, who was a clerk in the Singapore Civil Defence Force, was always there to pick him up when he was feeling down.
'I'm discouraged by all these things so he would say, 'Relax lah, relax, don't be discouraged',' he said.
And when Fauzie was hospitalised after his lung collapsed in in 2006, Hyrul was one of those who stood by him.
'We're like brothers,' said Hyrul
